Stay right in Nemo on Nemo Rd - walk to the restaurant, ATV rentals, and mercantile! No long winding gravel roads - direct access to Rapid, Sturgis, Deadwood, Hill City! Relax in the 40' heated salt-water swimming pool! Also fast mesh WiFi, 8 TVs stream Netflix, Amazon Video, Music and more!

The Lodge sleeps 24, 3 kitchens, 3 dining, 1 bar, 4 baths, and 3 laundries.

This lodge-style 6500 sq ft home is part of Freebird Ranch and sits on 2 of the entire 20 acres. The lodge and lawn are yours exclusively. The Lodge sleeps up to 24 total, with 3 kitchens, 3 dining, 1 bar, 3 1/2 baths, and 3 laundries.

The Lodge at Nemo is the entire residence. No part of the Lodge is shared with others, your entrances, yards and decks are all exclusive to you. A 40' heated salt water swimming pool (seasonal, approximately June through September) and a rec-room with pool-table, foosball, and exercise equipment are on the Ranch property and are for all Freebird Ranch guests (10am to 8pm). Also for all to enjoy is the walking path along Box Elder creek.

The main floor (the Eagle) is an amzing 2600 square feet of interior space. First, there is a beautiful chandelier that spreads a glow throughout the foyer and the floor to ceiling mossy rock gas fireplace. The golden light really brings out the warmth of the red oak wood flooring and the golden logs that frame the great room. In the living room hangs our 6 foot wide bronze eagle created for Bruce by his good friend and bronze sculptor, Nick Swearer.

To your right is a full kitchen with cherry cabinets and marble countertops. There is also a bar that sits eight in comfortable leather and walnut bar stools. The center of the kitchen is the commercial grade Viking range. The refrigerator has filtered delicious mountain well water. There is a dishwasher and the range/oven even has a pot filler and a griddle. This kitchen is set up for a chef and even has a butler's pantry attached. There are two sinks, as well! The kitchen is furnished with utensils, spices, condiments, pots and pans, dishes, silverware and kitchen linens.

The dining area has a Brazilia walnut oblong table with eight chairs. There is a Brazilia hutch that holds vintage dishes and silverware for use during special occasions.

Throughout the great room's numerous windows you have a view of the bluff. (We named our ranch Freebird for many reasons, one of them being that we have so many different species of birds that visit our property. There are Eagles, Herons and Mountain Bluebirds, to name a few.)

The magnificent fireplace is a double view unit and is central to the great room. The comfortable fire is seen when you enter the residence and when you walk around to the living room. While in the living room, sitting or standing, you have a beautiful view of the bluff and the fireplace. This room is decorated in softly hued fabrics and leathers and has a golden soft glow.

There is a flat screen television in the living room with a streaming Roku and DVD player and lots of DVDs on hand.

The main master bedroom may be accessed through the great room or through the mud room. This bedroom is quite large and has two comfortable hotel quality queen beds. In addition, there are two velvet club chairs and a walnut dresser. There is a flat screen television with video streaming and dvd player in the bedroom.

The bath has a garden jet tub, a five head shower stall with built in settee, a separate toilet, double vanities and a walk in closet. There is an additional door that can be used as access to the bathroom by others, as well.

The other bathroom in the house is off of the foyer and is a single vanity with a toilet. Bathrooms are furnished with towels, tissue, various over-the-counter medicines, some vitamins, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, makeup remover wipes, q-tips, cotton balls, paper towels and more.

The second bedroom is accessed through the hallway to the left of the foyer. This bedroom has two queen platform beds with hotel quality linens. The design in this room very relaxing with a love seat and club chair to chill or read a book. There is a flat screened television with video streaming and dvd in the bedroom. There is a patio door with entrance to the deck, as well.

There is a mudroom with a full sized washer and dryer set, more counter and cabinet space and another sink. We allow pets, but with rules. They must be on-leash when outside, and be kenneled indoors when you go out. We also supply lint rollers, upholstery cleaners, and spot removers, if you should need it.

At the end of the mudroom's hallway there is a small room and we have a small table and a few chairs there for someone to work on art, or put a puzzle together.

In the Eagle there are stairs that take you downstairs to The Heron:

Downstairs from the stairway entrance (which can be locked) opens up into 2400 square feet of interior space with patio doors out to the lower deck, which is concrete. The flooring is Adura Tempo Steel (a light gray vinyl tile). We chose this tile because it does not require glue for installation, therefore helping to keep our property free of VOCs.

The foyer has a double view fireplace, just like upstairs, however, this one is brick. The kitchen is danish modern, as is the dining room. The living room is furnished with reupholstered vintage couches from the 50s and 60s. The colors are soft and refreshing. There is a television/Roku/DVD in the living room.

Under the stairs there is space for a closet and we turned that into your own laundry room with full sized washer and dryer. All windows in the Heron face the mountain.

From the living room you have the door to the master bedroom. This room has two queen platform beds with hotel quality linens. There's a sitting area and a flat screen television in the bedroom.

Down the hallway is the full bathroom with tiled walls and floors. At the end of the hallway is the entrance to the guest bedroom. This bedroom has two queen platform beds with hotel quality linens. There is a lounge area here, as well. This room has a patio door to the lower deck. There is also a flat screen television in the bedroom.

From the lower back deck, the top level back deck and from the front of the residence you can access the next space, The Bluebird:

Separate 1150 sqft space is the most private of them all since it has no one living above or below. Upon entering from the front of the residence there is a foyer with a bench and coat hanging area. The first thing you will see though is a floor to ceiling gas fireplace and beautiful walnut furniture. And then the view of the mountain from the floor to ceiling windows. This view is spectacular!

There is a flat screen television with streaming Roku and DVD player in the living room. The kitchen cabinets are walnut and the counter tops are charcoal gray. The flooring is the same gray tile that is in the Heron.

There is a patio door that takes you to the upper cedar deck and allows you access to the Eagle. There are numerous lounging areas on all of the decks, with large capacity occupancy in mind. There are spaces, as well that accommodate a smaller group.

Down the hallway in the Bluebird you will find two bedrooms, each with two platform queen beds with hotel quality linens. Bedrooms have radiant heat and flat screen televisions. Rooms have been soundproofed. There is also a full bathroom with a double sink vanity.

For outdoor cooking we have three barbecues outside on the grass. We do not allow barbecues on our decks. We provide barbecue utensils, the propane, tin foil, paper plates and plastic cups. If you use more than we have, we ask that you provide those on your own.

You have entire Lodge and its greenbelt all to yourself. The barn is detached and is about 75 feet away from the lodge. It is a shared space. The pool and rec-room is on another parcel and can be seen from your deck. It is also a shared space. We have plenty of parking at the Lodge and more by the storage building. We also have a helicopter pad if you choose to 'chopper' in.

We live in a property adjacent to this property, so we are close by if you need us.

Nemo is centrally located in the Black Hills with easy access to the cities of Deadwood, Rapid City, Sturgis, Spearfish, and Hill City to name a few. Also in the area are many popular destinations such as Mount Rushmore, Devil's Tower, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, The Badlands, The Needles, Caves, Spearfish Canyon, Reptile Gardens, Bear Country, Beautiful Lakes, and Terry Peak. More attractions, activities, and links elsewhere on this website!

We look forward to you vacationing here in Nemo.

The swimming pool was a fabulous hit!

June 2022
We had a wonderful stay at Freebird Ranch. Our four separate families enjoyed all the accommodations, and especially cooking, eating, and playing games all in one big room. The swimming pool was a fabulous hit as well. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality. Oh and we enjoyed the Nemo Restaurant and live music on our last night there.

Amazing Location, Great For Groups!

September 2020
We had a large group/family meet up and Lodge was just what we were looking for! The property provided us plenty of space and is in a prime location. We rode ATV's from the property and there was plenty of space for our trucks and trailers and great trails nearby. The kitchen was big enough for all of us to cook and enjoy meals together, which we really enjoyed. The pool was a huge bonus, we all loved taking an afternoon swim and having that space to relax and hang out together. We hope to visit Nemo again in the future, we highly recommend!

August 2020
This house was wonderful! It is completely stocked with kitchen utensils, towels etc.. I also loved that the listing stated it slept 24 and it did! (No couches etc.) The view was breathtaking! The home owners were also wonderful! I can't say enough great things! We'll be back!

Luxury accommodations in a spectacular Black Hills location

July 2020
We have always wanted to try the Black Hills for a summer vacation and always heard great things, and this year a driving trip made a lot of sense given COVID-19, so we went for it. In our prior research, the challenge we had with the Black Hills area is that there were not many higher end properties, and when we camp, we prefer our camping to be remote and not at campgrounds. Fortunately, the lodge gave us a combination of an idyllic mountain setting in Nemo, a huge and beautiful home, and a great swimming pool complex which we used daily. Bruce and Traci could not have been nicer to us, and they are meticulous in keeping everything in great shape. The setting for the home is amazing. Off the back deck, your view is of the 600 foot canyon wall across the valley, the horses in the pasture and the trout stream. I like to exercise in the early AM, and you can hike up Mt. Nemo and back from the lodge in less than 2 hours, or take great runs back on a dirt road along the stream. We found Nemo to be a convenient location to see everything in the Black Hills (even with a bridge out forcing us to take a detour every day), including beautiful Spearfish Canyon and the fly fishing we did about half way to Rapid City. If you only wanted to do things in Custer Park (which would be a big mistake in my opinion), there are more convenient places. But we found the location to be great. For whatever it is worth, our favorite Black Hills sites were trout fishing up stream in Rapids Creek (above Rapid City but below the lake), the Bear Park near Rapid City (go during feeding time - kids loved it!), Needles Highway, the walk around Sylvan Lake, and Spearfish Canton. The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs and Devils Tower were also worth the trip. We found the southern part of Custer Park to be uninteresting, even though you do see buffalo. We liked the longer waterfall hike in Spearfish Canyon (but you do see cars for much of the hike on the road across the stream), Lovers Leap in Custer (but there is tons of poison ivy down in the stream portion - almost unavoidable - wash off with soap right after if you wear shorts), and around Sylvan Lake. The hike up Mt. Nemo was great. If we had another day, we would have rented ATVs in Nemo - looked like a lot of fun. The Black Hills are beautiful and have a ton to offer. If you think that the only beautiful mountain vacations are in the Rockies and West, the Black Hills will change your mind.

Great place &thumbsup'

Beautiful home with AMAZING VIEWS AND BEDS!!! OMG! Can't wait to come back!

Absolute bliss

Sep 2019
This place was absolute bliss. Traci and Bruce are exceptional hosts who very clearly put a lot of thought and effort into making their guests' stay comfortable, easy, and most of all, enjoyable. The location itself was incredible with great views of rocky cliff faces, peaceful valleys, and the beautiful Black Hills. The property was absolutely unbelievable with all of the different lodging buildings, the pool house, and the barn with the horses. The pictures of the property are gorgeous but don't do it justice. We were completely in awe of how much thought went into the main house in order to make guests comfortable. From having three separate living spaces (each with their own two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room), to the beautiful mid-century furniture that was used throughout, and the ample amount of appliances/cookware/utensils, etc. that were provided. We had the most wonderful time as a family of 24 and it never felt crowded. Traci and Bruce were so incredibly accommodating of our large group and so quick with responses that it made everything that much easier for a group as large as ours. We hope to be back to enjoy the property for longer. We couldn't say enough great things about how much we enjoyed our stay!

Beautiful home

Sep 2019
Beautiful home and location. One of the only homes in the area that can house this many guests.

Beautiful property

August 2019
This rental exceeded our expectations. The house was very clean and beautifully decorated. The location was convenient and the scenery perfect. One of our party left her iPad and the owner forwarded it on as soon as she was aware. We wish we could have stayed longer.

This Lodge is an incredible place! Absolutely amazing.

August 2019
I will recommend this listing, these owners, and this location to everyone I know. This magical lodge is in the perfect location for privacy and also accessibility to lots of tourist attractions. I took my team of 23 people to this lodge and it was even more incredible than I imagined. It accommodated us well, it was perfect for space to hang and work. I would give this 10 stars! You wont regret any part of this rental. Thank you Traci!

Jul 2019
The entire Freebird Ranch provided my group of 12 a remarkable stay while visiting the Black Hills area! I would not hesitate to stay in any of the villas, though the Eagle is the main section of this home. Each of us had our own comfortable queen sized bed, and there was plenty of room to socialize' a rarity of this caliber in my travelling experience. The home was meticulous with many ammenities, and the host's pride and caring about your stay really shows.

Great location

Our family has a reat time

Jun 2019
Upon entering the home, we were taken aback by the beauty of this modern/rustic but very expansive and clean home. Outside, we were surrounded by pristine mountains and beautiful horses to gaze at on the wrap around decks. Every detail was perfect and the house was fully stocked. We settled in as if it was our own home. The hosts were extremely hospitable and present at our every need or question.

Freebird Ranch Lodge-Amazing!!

June 2019
The Freebird Lodge exceeded our expectations! There were a group of 18 adults and 5 kiddos. We each pretty much had our own living area and we congregated in the main lodge to cook, eat, and then retreated to the amazing deck to visit, watch the horses, and the beautiful scenery of the hills. The lodge was very clean and is stocked very well with anything you need. There is plenty of cooking utensils, plates, etc and the bathrooms are stocked with all kinds of product. There are two grills, bean bag outdoor game, bikes to ride, horses to pet, and access to a stream. Tracy and Bruce have pretty much thought of all the details to make your stay worry-free. The new salt water pool is amazing and is just down the hill for easy access. The pool house was not finished yet but looks like it is going to be a very nice place to stay and play. The people of Nemo are very nice and accommodating. We rented a UTV and the kids' road horses from D&K ATV Rental and trail rides. Bruce and Tracy are top notch people. We can as strangers and left as friends. We plan to return in the near future.
